Tesla Model 3 Performance Surpasses EPA Range Estimates in Real-World Test
Automotive review site Edmunds has often called out Tesla when its vehicles failed to meet their EPA range estimates in real-world tests. However, in a recent review of the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance, Edmunds found that the all-electric sports sedan not only met its EPA range estimates but actually exceeded them.
According to Tesla’s order page for the reengineered Model 3 Performance, the vehicle is listed with an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles per charge. But, as noted in Edmunds’ review, the new Model 3 Performance managed to travel 307 miles in their real-world range test. This equates to a consumption of 29 kWh per 100 miles, which is highly impressive.
In its review, Edmunds highlighted that many Teslas it has tested in the past have failed to meet or exceed their EPA range estimates. For instance, the 2018 Model 3 Performance, which had an EPA-estimated range of 310 miles per charge, only managed to travel 256 miles in Edmunds' test. This trend was seen in other Tesla models as well.
Interestingly, the reengineered Model 3 Performance wasn’t the only Tesla to surpass its EPA range estimates in Edmunds’ real-world test. The Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series AWD with All-Terrain Tires, which had an EPA-estimated range of 318 miles, managed to travel 334 miles during the test. This was particularly surprising and impressive considering the Cybertruck's larger size and the all-terrain tires.
This wasn't the first time the reengineered Model 3 Performance exceeded its EPA range estimates in a real-world test. Last month, EV group Out of Spec Studios conducted an extreme range test between the previous-generation Model 3 AWD and the reengineered Model 3 AWD. To their delight, the reengineered Model 3 AWD was able to travel 370 miles at a constant 70 mph, well beyond its EPA-estimated range of 341 miles per charge.
In conclusion, the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance has exceeded expectations in real-world range testing, reinforcing Tesla’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
