Secret Tests on Updated Versions of Tesla Model S Plaid and Model Y Performance

Tesla is currently conducting secret tests on updated versions of its Model S Plaid and Model Y Performance at the renowned Nürburgring race circuit in Germany. These heavily camouflaged prototypes suggest that enhanced iterations of these models may soon be available for sale.

Recent images indicate that both vehicles are based on the latest generation designs. The Model Y features a full-width light bar and a more streamlined profile, while the Model S showcases a refreshed bumper and grille introduced earlier this year. Notably, the prototypes include additional aerodynamic enhancements, such as aggressive air ducts on the Model S Plaid and a long ducktail spoiler on the Model Y, aimed at reducing drag.

While Tesla has not disclosed specific details about the performance upgrades, there are hints that the Cybertruck's 800V electrical architecture could significantly enhance charging speeds for the Model S Plaid. The Model Y is expected to retain its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, whereas the Model S Plaid will likely continue with its tri-motor setup, delivering an impressive 1,020 horsepower and achieving 0-60 mph in just 2.1 seconds.

The Model Y Performance will also benefit from various updates, including a more luxurious interior and improved ride quality. Once a leader in high-performance electric sedans, the Model S Plaid's record lap times have recently been challenged by competitors like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra.

As the electric vehicle market evolves rapidly, the upcoming Model Y Performance will face stiff competition from models such as the Porsche Macan Turbo Electric and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. Although these high-performance variants may not become Tesla's top sellers, their introduction could help restore the company's reputation amid recent sales declines.
