Elon Musk provides an update on Tesla's plans for India: "Introducing Tesla EVs in India is a logical next step."

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has shared a positive development regarding the electric vehicle manufacturer's intentions for India. Musk emphasized that India, now the world's most populous nation, represents a strategic move for Tesla.

"In light of India's emergence as the most populous country globally, it's only fitting for electric vehicles to gain traction there, just as they have in other parts of the world. Introducing Tesla's electric vehicles to India is a logical step forward," Musk stated during a recent X Spaces session with Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management.

Recent reports have suggested that the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat in India are putting in some extra effort in their attempts to attract electric vehicle maker Tesla. These efforts reportedly come in the form of extended lucrative land offers for the EV maker, where the company could potentially build its domestic manufacturing facility.

As per the Economic Times, Tesla’s proposed plant is expected to cost between $2 billion to $3 billion. The potential Tesla facility is expected to cater to both the domestic and international market. Tesla would be a good addition to India’s emerging EV sector, as the country is looking to promote itself as an ideal destination for prominent electric vehicle manufacturers. This was highlighted by India’s new EV policy, which offers significant privileges for companies willing to make a notable investment in the country.

Recent updates indicate that Tesla is potentially on the brink of expanding its operations into India. According to a recent Reuters report, Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin is currently manufacturing right-hand drive (RHD) Model Y crossovers with the Indian market in mind. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Giga Berlin aims to commence exporting vehicles to India by the end of this year. As per Reuters' informants, construction of the RHD Tesla cars intended for India has already commenced at the Gigafactory.
