The Tesla software update introduces a single-use charge restriction and dynamic adjustments to high beam headlights.

Tesla has initiated the rollout of its latest software update, which introduces a novel one-time charge limit capability and adds support for adaptive high beams in select regions. The update, labeled as 2024.8, is currently being distributed to Tesla vehicles, bringing forth the new charge feature. Additionally, it introduces European compatibility for adaptive high beams on revamped Model S and Model X cars, as well as Model Y and earlier Model 3 units, as previously covered by Not a Tesla App.

Although adaptive high beams are initially being introduced in Europe, Tesla is actively working on implementing this feature in the U.S. in due course. Lars Moravy, Tesla's Head of Vehicle Engineering, hinted at the feature's rollout on Monday, indicating that more regions and functionalities are on the horizon. With adaptive high beams, the headlights will detect other road users, like drivers and cyclists, and automatically adjust to minimize glare for them. The release notes highlight that by individually dimming specific pixels of the headlights, the high beams will remain on more frequently, enhancing nighttime visibility while considering external factors.

Furthermore, drivers can activate the new headlight feature from the vehicle’s Lights menu, accessible under the Adaptive High Beams setting. Moreover, drivers can now opt for the one-time charge limit option when preparing for a road trip. When raising the normal charge limit above the daily driving recommendation, Tesla vehicles will prompt the option for a one-time charge limit. Following the journey, the vehicle will revert back to the previous daily charge limit automatically.

The adaptive headlights feature was also integrated into the upgraded Model 3 that Tesla debuted in Europe and other markets last year before extending the refreshed vehicle to North America in January.
