Tesla's Dominance in North American Parts Manufacturing for 2025 Models

A recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals Tesla's stronghold in the North American parts manufacturing for its 2025 models. The majority of Tesla's vehicles are predominantly assembled with components sourced from the United States and Canada, showcasing the company's commitment to domestic production.

Leading Models by North American Parts Content

The Model 3 Long Range all-wheel drive (AWD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants rank at the top, with an impressive 75% of their parts produced in North America. This achievement ties them with Honda’s Ridgeline AWD TrailSport. Other notable Tesla models include:

Model 3 Performance and Model Y: Both have a North American parts content of 70%.
Model S and Model X: These models follow closely, with 65% and 60% parts sourced from North America, respectively.

Here’s a concise summary of Tesla’s North American parts content:

Cybertruck's Position Among Electric Trucks

In the electric truck category, the Cybertruck stands out, achieving second place with a 65% North American parts content, just behind Honda's Ridgeline at 75%. Other electric trucks, like the GMC Sierra EV and Ford F-150 Lightning, have significantly lower North American parts percentages at 36% and 29%, respectively.

Traditional Automakers vs. Tesla

Interestingly, traditional automakers often perceived as the most "American," such as the Detroit Big Three, rank lower in North American content compared to Tesla. As Tesla continues to expand its domestic production capabilities—especially with new battery cell facilities and components at their plants, including the upcoming lithium refinery in Robstown, Texas—the expectation is that their North American content will keep increasing.

This data highlights Tesla's leadership in manufacturing North American vehicles and reinforces its pivotal role in the automotive industry.
