Tesla Introduces Projection Puddle Lights in North America

Tesla has expanded its accessory lineup by adding Projection Puddle Lights to its North American store, following their earlier launch in China. This move highlights Tesla's strategy of using the Chinese market as a testing ground for new products before a global rollout. Notably, this is not the first instance of such a strategy; the Caraoke Mic also saw a soft launch in China prior to its U.S. introduction in July.

Details of the Puddle Lights

Available for $65 USD or $90 CAD, these puddle lights are compatible with the Model Y and all versions of the Model 3, including the newly refreshed 2024 Model 3 Highland and older models. However, they are not compatible with the Model S or Model X at this time.

When the driver or front passenger doors are opened, the lights project a high-definition “Tesla” wordmark onto the ground, creating a stylish entry experience. While technically usable on the rear doors as well, Tesla has not specifically indicated this compatibility, and third-party options often report reduced brightness when installed in the rear due to power limitations in the wiring harness.

DIY Installation

The installation of these lights is the responsibility of the customer, and Tesla provides a DIY service manual to guide users through the process. The installation is relatively simple, requiring only a blunt plastic tool to remove the original puddle lights and disconnect the power adapter.

This addition to Tesla's accessory lineup showcases the company's commitment to enhancing the customer experience while providing stylish and functional upgrades for their vehicles.
