Tesla has updated its policy regarding driving late at night and how it impacts the Safety Score.

Tesla has updated how driving late at night can impact your Safety Score.

The Safety Score from Tesla provides drivers with feedback on their driving habits, using various factors to assess the likelihood of future accidents.

While this feature has been available for some time, Tesla continues to refine and enhance it, just as it does with its other features, striving for ongoing improvements in accuracy. In the latest update, known as Version 2.1, Tesla has adjusted how late-night driving influences your score.

Previously, Tesla considered any driving between 10 PM and 4 AM when calculating the Safety Score. Now, they have shifted this timeframe back by an hour, focusing on the amount of driving that occurs between 11 PM and 4 AM.

Tesla explains this update on its Safety Score page:

"The updated Late-Night Driving feature now considers risk based on driving from 11 PM to 4 AM (previously 10 PM to 4 AM). The impact of late-night driving on your Safety Score depends on the proportion of time spent driving in each hour from 11 PM to 4 AM."

"Because the risk level varies during each late-night hour, each hour is weighted differently, affecting your Safety Score accordingly. For instance, driving at 11 PM won't impact your Safety Score as significantly as driving at 2 AM."

HOW TESLA ASSESSES YOUR SAFETY SCORE

Tesla uses eight factors to calculate your Safety Score:

Forward Collision Warnings per 1,000 non-Autopilot miles
Hard Braking
Aggressive Turning
Unsafe Following
Excessive Speeding
Late-Night Driving
Forced Autopilot Disengagement
Unbuckled Driving
Each factor is taken into account to provide a comprehensive assessment of your driving behavior and safety practices.
