Tesla Model Y units at the company's Gigafactory Berlin in Germany were spotted today with Hardware 4, Tesla's latest and most advanced self-driving computer.
Hardware 4 was first introduced last year, revealing Tesla's plans to equip future vehicles with additional cameras and possibly radar systems, among other enhancements.
This new hardware is Tesla's most advanced self-driving computer to date, designed to process more data for improved accuracy and performance as Tesla continues to develop its Full Self-Driving suite.
The primary upgrade from HW3 to HW4 was driven by the need for higher-resolution images of the vehicle's surroundings. HW4 cameras offer 5-megapixel resolution, a significant upgrade from the previous 1.2-megapixel cameras.
The first vehicles to feature HW4 were Model X Plaid cars. Subsequently, we saw HW4 in some Model Y vehicles produced at the Fremont Factory in California. It was expected that U.S. vehicles would receive HW4 due to the widespread use of Tesla's FSD suite in that market.
Now, it seems Tesla is preparing to install HW4 in Model Y vehicles outside the U.S. market.
In January, Tesla China announced through Weibo, the country's leading social media platform, that the Model Y would be equipped with HW4.
While there hasn't been much information about FSD for the European market, new images and videos shared by users on X indicate that Model Y vehicles built at Gigafactory Berlin are also being equipped with HW4.
Tesla had earlier listed several ADAS-related job openings in Europe. The job descriptions mentioned that the roles would be "responsible for identifying improvements and regressions across software iterations."
Additionally, Teslascope reported sightings of two Tesla vehicles operating with FSD in the area.
Nevertheless, the full suite has yet to be officially released. The appearance of HW4 vehicles from Giga Berlin is notable in this context.
