Tesla is making changes to the stopping modes for the Model 3 and Y, opting to exclusively feature Hold Mode.

Tesla is updating the stopping modes for its new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles sold in the U.S. starting from January 1, 2024. These updates remove the Creep and Roll modes, leaving only the Hold mode. Owners of existing Model 3 and Model Y cars won't have these modes removed through software updates.

The adjustment aligns with Tesla's ongoing efforts to refine efficiency and the user experience of their electric vehicles. This change comes alongside undisclosed enhancements in battery utilization, leading to improved EPA range figures for the Model S, Model X, and Model Y.

The elimination of Creep and Roll modes is tied to recent EPA regulations that now factor in different acceleration modes when determining the EPA estimate for a vehicle. Tesla's decision to exclude less efficient stopping modes in new models aims to enhance overall vehicle efficiency.

Tesla's stopping modes—Creep, Roll, and Hold—offer distinct behaviors for deceleration and stopping. Creep mimics traditional automatic transmission, Roll lets the car coast freely, and Hold continues regenerative braking at lower speeds, allowing the car to stop without using the brake pedal. Hold mode, known for its efficient regenerative braking, is becoming the sole option for new Tesla drivers, offering a smoother driving experience and reducing brake wear while returning energy to the battery.

Hold mode, favored for its superior performance and ease of use, particularly benefits drivers transitioning from traditional vehicles to electric cars. While new electric vehicle drivers might initially find the adjustment to regenerative braking challenging, Tesla's move to exclusively offer Hold mode aims to simplify and enhance the driving experience.

Hello, to answer the question from @RALPH FEDERSPIEL. Here as followed is the suggestion for your reference:
1) Check if multiple users are set up If you have set up multiple phone keys (each phone key represents a different user) and each user has a different default braking mode, the car will randomly unlock using one of the users’ profiles when multiple phones are near the car. This could result in the car not using your default braking mode.
2) If there is only one default user, make sure to save changes After changing the braking mode settings, a prompt will appear at the top of the screen asking if you want to save the settings. Click “Save” to confirm the changes.
If anything else needed, pls do not hesitate to let us know, we are always here to help~
