Usage Guidelines for Tesla Robotaxi Service

As Tesla prepares to launch its Robotaxi service for early access users in Austin, it has released a comprehensive set of guidelines for passengers. These rules cover eligibility, expected behavior, and safety protocols, ensuring a secure experience for all riders. During the initial phase, a safety monitor will be present, meaning the front passenger seat will not be available for customers.

Eligibility Criteria
Tesla has established specific criteria regarding passenger eligibility and expected behavior within its Robotaxi service. To book a ride or travel alone, individuals must be at least 18 years old. Each rider is allowed to bring one guest, provided that the guest is also over 18. Importantly, rides cannot be reserved for others; the account holder must be present throughout the journey. These guidelines are straightforward, and it is anticipated that Tesla may ease some restrictions in the near future. Once the safety monitor is no longer required, the capacity for passengers could potentially increase to three or four.

Passenger Conduct
All riders are required to remain seated with seatbelts fastened during the ride. Smoking, vaping, and the consumption of alcohol or drugs are strictly prohibited inside the vehicle. Passengers are expected to treat the Robotaxi with respect, leaving it in the same condition as they found it. Any damage or excessive mess may incur additional charges.

Driverless Vehicle Regulations
Unique to Tesla's service, the Model Ys still have driver controls. Passengers are not permitted to occupy the driver’s seat or tamper with any vehicle controls. Additionally, while capturing photos and videos is allowed, recording devices intended for surveillance or reverse-engineering are banned.

Service Animal Policy
Tesla has a clear policy for passengers with disabilities, allowing only trained small service animals in the vehicle, and no other pets are allowed. Passengers do not need to provide proof, but staff may ask about the necessity of the animal and its training tasks. It is not clear whether Tesla will allow non-service animals in the future, but currently it is limited to service animals.

Tesla's cautious approach during this initial rollout, with the presence of a safety monitor, aims to build public trust in autonomous vehicles. As the service expands, it will be crucial to ensure safety and compliance to foster confidence among potential users.
