Before China Debut, Tesla's Model Y L Appears in Europe
Tesla's long-wheelbase Model Y L has been sighted in Europe, indicating its imminent introduction beyond Chinese borders. A prototype, featuring light camouflage, was observed at a charging station near Germany's Nürburgring, suggesting that this extended wheelbase crossover will soon be available in European markets following its expected launch in China this September.

The Model Y L is designed to accommodate six passengers and is projected to extend the standard Model Y's overall length by approximately 178 mm (7 inches), with 152 mm (6 inches) dedicated to increasing the wheelbase. This modification aims to enhance third-row space, providing rear seating comfort that could rival the more expensive Model X, which is no longer available for order in Europe.

Initially mistaken for a Model Y Performance during testing, the prototype's distinctive extended rear door cutout and 19-inch wheels—uncommon for the Performance variant—indicate that it is indeed the Model Y L. These wheels align with specifications listed in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings in China for the upcoming model.
Production of the Model Y L is expected to commence at Giga Shanghai for the Chinese market, with strong speculation that it will also be manufactured at Giga Berlin, the Fremont Factory, and Giga Texas in the United States. Recent reports suggest that production in China has already started, with sales anticipated to launch in September. Given its more accessible price point compared to the flagship Model X, the Model Y L is poised to become Tesla's premier SUV for families seeking additional passenger capacity without entering the premium price range of the Model X.
