Referred to as Juniper, this new electric vehicle remains largely under wraps, but insider leaks have provided us with a clearer picture of what to expect from the upcoming Tesla Model Y. Additionally, artist renderings have given us a better visual representation of its design, and the vehicle has been spotted undergoing testing.

A fresh spy video featuring a camouflaged Tesla Model Y test vehicle has surfaced on Elon Musk's social media platform X, showcasing intricate details of the car's front and rear light designs. Additionally, there are rumors of a camera positioned in the front bumper, intended for Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology. There are also reports suggesting that production has already begun at Tesla's Gigafactory in China, initially with a limited number of vehicles before scaling up to full production. However, no official announcements have been made yet. The Model Y is also manufactured at Tesla's Gigafactory in Berlin and in the United States. We anticipate a reveal sometime in early 2025, with sales expected to commence shortly thereafter.
In the UK, a new Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant of the current Model Y has been introduced, featuring a range of 373 miles and priced at £46,990. To encourage sales of the outgoing model, Tesla is offering zero percent financing over four years. Additionally, a seven-seat option for the Model Y is now available in the UK, which adds £2,500 to the price of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive version.

With reports suggesting that production of the new Model Y is already in progress and increasing, it wouldn't be surprising if the vehicle is revealed within the next few weeks—likely in early 2025.
The launch date for sales, along with the first deliveries, is anticipated in the first quarter of 2025, with the seven-seat and performance variants expected to be available alongside the Standard and Long Range Model Y later in the year.
New Model Y pricing
The Tesla Model 3 experienced a slight price increase upon its relaunch in early 2024, and a similar adjustment is anticipated for the upcoming Tesla Model Y. Speculation about new technology being integrated suggests that the price may rise to accommodate manufacturing expenses.
Currently, there is no standard rear-wheel drive Model Y available in the UK; the starting price for the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant is £46,990. In comparison, the standard rear-wheel drive Model 3 is priced £5,000 lower than its Long Range counterpart. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising if the new standard Rear-Drive Model Y is introduced at approximately £43,000, with an additional £5,000 increase for the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version.
Design of the new Model Y

This design is expected to be an evolution of the current model, ensuring that the existing version remains relevant and not outdated—similar to the approach taken with the latest Model 3, which debuted in early 2024.
The new Model Y will maintain a similar overall proportion, but it will feature numerous detailed changes that will give it a distinctly different appearance. The most notable update is the new, more aerodynamic front end, which includes a sleek light bar that spans the entire width of the vehicle. This fresh design draws inspiration from the Cybertruck and the recently unveiled Tesla Robotaxi. Recent spy shots of the Model Y reveal a split headlight configuration positioned beneath the light bar.
The deep front windshield continues to flow seamlessly into a standard glass roof. At the rear, another full-width light bar enhances the car's width, mirroring the design elements found in the Cybercab and Cybertruck. Additionally, the Model Y will sport slimmer LED rear lights, similar to those on the Model 3, and the Tesla name will be prominently displayed across the boot lid.
New wheel designs and maybe a new colour or two could also feature.
Inside the new Model Y
Tesla has made significant improvements in interior quality, so while the new Model Y's interior will closely resemble that of the previous version, it will be constructed with better materials and enhanced build quality.
The design will mirror that of the Model 3, featuring a minimalist interior without traditional stalks for wipers, turn signals, or gear selection. The wipers will operate automatically when the vehicle detects rain, similar to the current model, while turn signals will be activated through buttons on the steering wheel, which will also control the headlight flashes.
Gear selection will be managed via the touchscreen, with the vehicle intelligently determining the desired direction based on its parking position. For instance, if the car is parked facing a wall, it will automatically select reverse.
Following the recent unveiling of a seven-seat version of the Model Y at the Paris Motor Show, we can anticipate that a similar seven-seat variant of the new Model Y will be available for sale after the launch of the updated model.
New Model Y range
Tesla has recently launched updated versions of the Model Y with extended range capabilities to enhance sales during the vehicle's final production phase. Consequently, we can anticipate that these new models will not offer less range than their predecessors. With advanced technology integrated into the new Model Y, we expect its maximum claimed range to approach that of the latest Tesla Model 3.

New Model Y technology
