The growth of Australia's electric vehicle charging infrastructure has been significantly propelled by the impact of Tesla's Supercharger V3 network.

Australia experienced a substantial surge in its public DC fast charger network for electric vehicles during Q4 2023, with Tesla's Supercharger V3 Network leading the charge. According to insights from Next System's Australian Electric Vehicle Public Fast Charger Report, Tesla's Supercharger V3 played a pivotal role, contributing over half of the country's electric vehicle charging expansion.

The comprehensive report utilized data from Carloop, encompassing details such as the number of EV charging sites, charging stalls, and overall installed capacity. In Q4 2023, Australia witnessed the addition of an impressive 50,500 kW in installed charger capacity. This remarkable figure stands in stark contrast to the same period in 2022 when only 13,600 kW of installed EV charger capacity was added to the public charging network.

The impact of Tesla's Supercharger V3 on Australia's electric vehicle charging infrastructure was noteworthy, accounting for 30,500 kW or 60% of all new capacity in the fourth quarter of 2023. The expansion involved the establishment of 126 new Supercharger V3 sites, each capable of delivering up to 250 kW of power per vehicle.

Tesla introduced its V3 Superchargers in 2019, emphasizing a 50% reduction in charging time compared to previous systems. With peak rates reaching 250 kW per car, a Model 3 Long Range operating at peak efficiency could recover up to 75 miles of charge in just five minutes.

Despite holding a 10% market share based on the raw number of EV charging sites in Australia, Tesla excels in total charging units and overall installed capacity, as highlighted by Next System's report. The average of 5.9 chargers per Tesla site in Australia surpasses the average of other networks by more than three times, and the chargers themselves boast higher power ratings. This underscores Tesla's commitment to establishing EV charging locations that can accommodate more vehicles and offer reliable rapid charging services.
