Tesla Unveils Its Inaugural V4 Supercharger Station in Asia

Tesla has inaugurated its inaugural V4 Supercharger station in Asia, situated in Hong Kong, China. This development represents the introduction of new charging infrastructure in Tesla's key regions.

The V4 Supercharger station, confirmed by Tesla, is now operational at Lee Garden One in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Boasting three V4 supercharger stalls at this location, along with an additional 12 V3 Supercharger stalls at Lee Garden Three and Hysan Place, it stands as the largest charging hub on Hong Kong Island, as reported by Pandaily.

Fan Jingyi, Tesla's regional director, highlighted that the V4 Supercharger is outfitted with extended charging cables, facilitating convenience for owners of various brands. Presently, it offers a charging capacity of up to 250 kW per vehicle. However, an over-the-air (OTA) update is planned in the future to enhance charging efficiency. As for the charging cost, it will mirror the existing V3 system, approximately ranging from HK$3.05 to 4.05 per kilowatt-hour (around $0.4 to 0.5).

Hong Kong holds Tesla as the leading electric car brand, with 6,415 out of 18,000 newly registered electric vehicles in August of this year being Teslas. Tesla presently boasts 65 V3 Supercharger sites and 124 destination charging stations, spanning all 18 districts in Hong Kong. Tesla's partner, Hysan Development, has announced an expansion plan to increase the number of upgraded Tesla stalls to 165, encompassing 15 Supercharger sites and 150 destination charging stations.

The introduction of the V4 Supercharger in Asia signifies Tesla's official launch of this new product in its three major markets: Europe, the US, and China. Europe was the first to witness the introduction of these new charging stations and currently boasts the highest number of installations. Recently, the company has also commenced the rollout of the V4 Supercharger in the US, with two locations already identified.
