Tesla rolls out a fresh Model Y setup in the United States

Tesla has rolled out a fresh Model Y setup in the U.S., boasting extended range and a marginally higher price tag.

According to the company's order configurator noticed on Friday night, Tesla has introduced a fresh Long-Range Rear-Wheel-Drive setup in the U.S. market. This version boasts an estimated range of 320 miles and starts at $44,990. Compared to the previous RWD configuration, which offered only 260 miles and was priced $2,000 lower at $42,990, this represents a notable upgrade.

Moreover, the new variant has supplanted the old RWD option, now assuming the position of the most budget-friendly Model Y trim available in the U.S.

The latest Model Y trim qualifies for the federal $7,500 tax credit, along with potential state and local incentives depending on the buyer's location.

Interestingly, while the new RWD LR variant isn't currently available on order configurators for Canada or Mexico, Tesla did introduce this configuration earlier this year in select European countries. Notably, in those countries, the LR RWD was introduced alongside the base RWD, unlike in the U.S., where it serves as a replacement.

Last year, a similar Model 3 LR RWD was launched as a fleet vehicle exclusively for commercial customers in the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, Tesla recently added the Quicksilver paint color option to the Model Y, which was initially unveiled with the announcement of the advanced paint shop at Gigafactory Berlin. This addition comes after Tesla implemented price reductions on its Model Y, Model S, and Model X in the U.S. in recent weeks.

In the U.S., the Tesla Model Y accounted for more than a third of all battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales last year and maintained this position in Q1. Additionally, it claimed the title of the world's best-selling vehicle last year, as confirmed by JATO Dynamics data and emphasized by Tesla in a recent "mobile advertisement" towed by a Cybertruck.
