Cybertruck FSD and Park Assist Updates: What to Expect Next Month

Tesla's much-anticipated Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability for the Cybertruck will not be arriving as soon as some had hoped. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's Head of Autopilot and AI, recently confirmed via a post on X that while FSD is not quite ready for the Cybertruck, a series of parking assistance features will be introduced in the interim. These updates mark a significant step forward, albeit not the full FSD rollout owners might have been expecting.

Cybertruck Park Assist and Autopark Features

As it stands, the Cybertruck lacks both Park Assist and Autopark functionalities, key features that Tesla's other models currently enjoy. Park Assist is known for its detailed depiction of the vehicle's surroundings, an invaluable tool when navigating tight parking spaces. With the Cybertruck's design including a front bumper camera, it's anticipated that the Park Assist feature will be even more advanced on this model, offering enhanced accuracy and safety.

Moreover, Park Assist will work in tandem with Autopark, another feature that has become a staple in Tesla’s lineup. Autopark identifies suitable parking spaces, whether parallel or perpendicular, and automatically maneuvers the vehicle into place. By detecting nearby parking options at speeds under 8 mph (13 km/h), the system allows drivers to select a space on the Cybertruck’s touch screen, after which the vehicle autonomously completes the parking process.

According to Elluswamy, these parking assist updates are expected by the end of this week. While Park Assist will be accessible to all Cybertruck owners, Autopark will only be available to those who have purchased Enhanced Autopark or FSD packages.

Anticipated FSD Timeline for Cybertruck

As for the long-awaited FSD functionality, Elluswamy provided a tentative timeline. He indicated that Autopilot/FSD should be ready for the Cybertruck by September. Tesla's current focus is on rolling out the parking assistance features first, with FSD expected to follow in a subsequent software update, likely within the FSD 12.5 point release. All Cybertruck units are equipped with Tesla's latest hardware, AI4, ensuring they are ready for FSD as soon as it becomes available.

While the delay may be disappointing to some, the introduction of these parking assist features represents a significant enhancement to the Cybertruck's capabilities. With September just around the corner, Cybertruck owners can look forward to further updates, potentially even sooner than anticipated, as Tesla continues its rapid development and deployment of new software features.
